President's Message

September 11, 2006

Congratulations! For the fourth consecutive year, our Chapter has achieved the Platinum status, which is the highest chapter recognition level available. This achievement reflects the efforts and commitment of our membership and leadership team. Thank you for all of your hard work. Let’s continue to aim high and achieve Platinum status again this year!

I am excited and proud to serve as your President this year and am looking forward to celebrating our Chapter’s 40th anniversary with all of you! We’ll be celebrating all year but will hold a special recognition ceremony at our May meeting - - where we’ll also be recognizing May as Internal Audit Awareness month.

The Chapter Officer’s and Board of Governors are in place and have held several meetings to prepare for the upcoming year. A full list of your Officer’s and Board of Governors is on the chapter website at www.tampabayiia.org.  There is still plenty of time and need if you are interested in volunteering to serve this year. We are looking for Committee Chairs and Committee Members – if you are interested, please contact me or anyone from the Officer team.

This Chapter year is shaping up to be a busy one! We are close to finalizing details for each of our seminars and meetings and have a solid outline of events to come. This year, we will be starting our seminars at 8:30am and ending at 4:30 pm, offering 7.5 hours of CPE for each event. All original CPE certificates will be available approximately 15 minutes prior to the end of the seminar and/or meeting. If you must leave early, please see an Officer to amend your certificate to reflect the correct CPE hours earned. Last year, we tried several different methods to distribute CPE certificates and found this to be the best. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation.

This year, we are again selling package deals for seminars. $350 for four 7.5 CPE seminars including continental breakfast, gourmet lunch, and snacks. This year’s seminar dates are Monday, October 9th, Thursday, November 16th, Monday, February 5th, and Monday, May 14th. Monthly meetings are planned in October, November, January, and March. And last but not least, the inaugural Florida West Coast Chapter Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, April 13th. More details to follow on all of these great events. We will be finalizing arrangements for all of these events over the next few weeks and will post the details on the chapter’s website.

New this year will be industry specific break-out sessions. Based on feedback from our annual chapter survey, professionals from the Healthcare, Financial Services, and Government sectors desired semi-annual meetings with their peers. We will also provide periodic break-out sessions for Chief Audit Executives. If you are interested in Chairing one of these break-out sessions, please contact me.

Thanks again for your support last year (and so far this year) – I am thrilled with what we’ve already achieved and am excited about the opportunities we’ll have to promote the Internal Audit Profession. Take care and see you soon!

Spotlight on New Officers

This Month: Scott Moreland is the new chapter secretary and Director of Internal Audit at Raymond James Financial

Previous to joining Raymond James Financial, Scott spent 10 years with international accounting firms where he provided audit, advisory, and risk assurance services and served in key practice management capacities. In addition, Scott spent 4 years with the PepsiCo organization where he held leadership roles in the Corporate Audit and Accounting departments. Scott graduated from Texas Tech University with a double major in Accounting and Management Information Systems and is a Certified Internal Auditor and a Certified Information Systems Auditor.

“The IIA has always provided guidance and resources to Internal Audit professionals, and in today’s fast-paced world of Internal Audit, information sharing among geographic and industry groups is more critical than ever. At Raymond James Financial, we’re looking to better leverage the wealth of knowledge and resources provided by our local IIA chapter. I agreed to take on a leadership position because I have seen the benefits that can be derived from close affiliations with other internal audit professionals and want to do what I can to ensure that this forum remains open and available for local internal auditors.”

Scott Moreland

Platinum Status, Again!

Platinum Status, Again! As you may know, the IIA measures Chapter Achievement Program (CAP) points throughout the year. A chapter earns CAP points for programs, communication and services provided to its members. At the close of a chapter year in May, a chapter is designated Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum, based on the level of CAP points achieved. For the 2005-2006 chapter year that ended in May 2006, your West Coast Florida Chapter achieved the highest designation possible – Platinum status, which signifies reaching Gold status for 10 consecutive years. In fact, this marks the fourth year of Platinum status for your chapter. Congratulations to all the chapter leadership and its members for this notable distinction!

2006-2007 Seminar Pricing Package

The Chapter leadership has planned an exceptionally strong seminar series this year covering topics in demand by the internal audit community. The Chapter has gathered several nationally and regionally known speakers, promising to bring the most timely and effective Seminar series our chapter has ever presented. You will want to be sure to have a seat for all four days. As in years past, the chapter offers special pricing for seats at all four seminars. Visit http://tampabayiia.org/Pricing_06.htm to make your reservation.

Each speaking engagement on internal auditing that a Tampa Bay Chapter member completes will earn the Chapter 1 credit per CPE hour. Each full article, Roundtable article, Fraud Finding, etc. submitted that meets basic editorial guidelines will earn 5 credits. For each full article published 20 credits are earned.
