October 2003
Presidents Letter
October 8, 2003
The new year is off with a bang. Your board members, officers, and committees have put
together another exciting year of thought-provoking programs and events. Just a few of the
highlights include:
- Two of the four seminars (October and February) will include
breakout sessions by industry to enhance your learning experience and provide more
information and solutions you can take back to your shops.
- Many members have asked for some governmental training, so the February seminar will
provide it. Plus this will be a joint seminar with the Southwest Florida Chapter who is
chartering a bus to bring 30 + attendees to the event.
- Members have asked for more variety of speakers for the seminars. Please note that all
seminars this year have at least two presenters.
- Your own Vice President of Education, Ken Gentile, is attended the IIA Regional
Conference in Halifax and will make a presentation to the Board immediately following the
October 27 seminar. Our chapter is strongly considering applying to the IIA to host the 2005 Regional Conference. Everyone is certainly welcome to
attend this meeting at 4:45pm at the Hilton.
- You may remember the Meet the Members segments where various members
introduced themselves and talked about their audit shops. This was such a hit that we are
bringing it back this year.
- Two scholarships will be offered this year under the watchful
eyes of Kate Head and Dr. Terry Engles. The winner(s) will be recognized at a student
social that will be held immediately following one of the seminars (probably February).
As you can see, your local chapter is doing its best to meet the training and
professional development needs of its members. As always, your help is needed and would be
greatly appreciated. If you are interested in serving on a committee, helping out at a
single event, helping to plan the 2005 regional conference, etc, then simply contact any
of the officers or committee chairs.
We look forward to seeing you at the October seminar.

2003 - 2004 Seminar Pricing
The cost per member for all four seminars will be $260, which is an
exceptional CPE value. We realize that staff availability and CPE needs vary over the
course of a year, so our program is not individual specific. Your organization
is purchasing spaces at each of the seminars that may be used by the same
individual or several people over the course of the four seminars. The price of $260
includes admission to the Chapters four 8-hour CPE seminars, including lunch,
continental breakfast, and two refreshment breaks.
IIA Members not enrolled in the corporate/advance plan will be charged $125 per
seminar. Therefore, if you and/or anyone else from your company plan to attend two
seminars this year, it would be better to become a corporate member at $260 and receive
two additional seminars for just $10 more. Non-members will be charged $150 per person for
an individual seminar and $360 per person for the four-seminar package. If you are
planning to attend two seminars, you may want to consider the non-member package of $360
for just $60 more you can attend the remaining two programs.
Payments, or payment arrangements, must be received by the October 27th seminar. We
realize that most of you will require a detailed invoice for payment processing. To have
our Treasurer process an invoice, please go to Seminar Pricing on our web site.
Regional Conference Update
A class 3 hurricane could not stop Ken Gentile from attending or the Maritime chapter
of Halifax from hosting the 2003 Regional Conference in Halifax Canada.
Despite a direct hit by Hurricane Juan the conference went off with only minor challenges.
Ken traveled to Halifax, Canada on a fact
finding mission to prepare for our hosting of the October 2005 Regional Conference in
Florida. Ken is pictured with Veronica Johnson from the IIA International who helped host
the conference.
Between now and December a team has to be formed, a theme created and a budget and plan
presented. All those that are interested in being a part of this worth while endeavor are
invited to join us! It is going to be a blast and you will not want to miss it! Mark your
calendars for October 2005.
If you are interested in being a part, please contact Ken Gentile:

You can get involved right away by participating in the contest
below.
Help Select the Theme for the
2005 Regional Conference
Your West Coast Florida Chapter of the IIA is bidding to bring the 2005 South
Eastern Regional Conference to Tampa Bay.
While we have not yet won the bid, we do want to put our best foot forward in terms of
a theme that represents our chapter and region. The winner will get a nice prize!
To enter, send an email to Ken Gentile (KGentile@AMI-FL.org)
with:
- One sentence theme or tag line (i.e., "Tampa, the next great city")
- A suggestion for a logo (i.e., "a big fish")
It could be Florida related since we are a regional conference or Tampa related. The
judging will be done by the Board of Governors. Any close votes will be decided by the
members at October 27 seminar.
Immediately after the October 27 seminar, we are holding a Board meeting specifically
to decide if the chapter is going to pursue the hosting of the 2005 IIA Regional
Conference. Ken Gentile and his wife attended the Regional Conference in Halifax in
October and will present his findings.
If we decide to proceed, we have to:
- Make a presentation to the IIA in December
- Fill out the leadership positions required to plan and conduct the conference
The Board meeting will be from 4:45pm to 6:00pm at the Hilton. All members are invited
to attend.
